She Loves to Shop

I’m not much of a shopper. I’m happy to run into a store, get what I want and leave.

Madison is the exact opposite. She likes to walk up and down every single aisle.

In addition to walking down every single aisle, it is not a real shopping trip if she cannot touch every item that catches her eye. Thankfully, she’s never rough with anything.

Even better is when she is happily walking along accidently knocking items off the shelf. That makes the shopping trip even more fun! Thankfully it is always little items that are non-breakable. Whew! :)

I sure do love my little shopper.

2 in 3

Two toothbrushes.

Three days.

Madison has lost 2 toothbrushes in 3 days.

We are now on toothbrush 3.

Mom wised up and bought a package of toothbrushes that come two in a pack.

The new toothbrushes also come with a suction cup on the bottom.

She says she has no idea where the other toothbrushes are.

I assume at some point it will be much like a squirrel finding their hidden stash of acorns.

She keeps things interesting, that’s for sure. Smile

She Did It!!

We have been trying for a rather long time to get Madison potty-trained. It was a process that I thought might last until at least her 12th birthday. Some kids seem to be so easy and decide they want to be out of diapers immediately; not our Madison.

Anything besides a diaper was too boring, too weird, too scratchy, too big, too spotty, too plain … you get the picture. Everyday I would encourage her to try what ‘big girls’ wear. Last Monday, I think she ran out of excuses. She told me she had to wear a diaper because the big girl underwear is what she wore when she got ‘mare-ed’ (married). I laughed, it had come to that.

We tried books, videos, and rewards. We let her pick out her special big girl underwear and tried most every bit of advice we received. Literally everything we tried was either not at all an option for her, or would only encourage her for a day or two. Our doctor even suggested acting like it was not a big deal in the hopes that if we were causing too much pressure, she would do it on her own. Nothing worked.

However, in true Madison-fashion, on her own she decided last Tuesday, May 22nd that she was done with diapers. She gave no warning. She gave no indication this would be happening. She didn’t even act like it was a big deal. But, I must say, it’s been a wonderful surprise.  Tuesday night she wore a diaper to bed and that was her last diaper.

She has worn pull-ups the last several days, but we’ve gone ahead and moved her to big girl underwear. She takes herself to the bathroom and does not even want me in there with her. We don’t even have to ask her if she has to use the bathroom, she either tells us or takes care of it herself. She acts like all of this is old hat and she’s been doing it for years. It really is rather amazing. We still get all excited every time she goes. She just looks at us like we’ve lost our marbles. I tell her, “I’m so proud of you!” She gives me a hug and says, “I’m proud of you too, Momma.”

Heck, I’m proud of all of us. This has been a journey. But, we have arrived!

Way to go sweet girl!

“It’s Killing Me!”

Madison has a flair for the dramatic. Her reactions to situations are hilarious and almost always catch us off guard. Her responses leave us wondering where on earth she picks these things up.

Last week I was trying to be silly with Madison. She was laughing and her response to me was, “Momma, you’re killing me!” I asked her if she meant kidding, she didn’t miss a beat and said, “Yes, you’re killing me!” Silly girl.

Now this week she has added this phrase into her normal conversations.

“These noodles are killing me.” “This shirt is killing me.” “The sunshine is killing my eyes.” As I said, she’s dramatic. :-)

Just tonight she said her pants were killing her, and suggested rather adamantly that I change them.

I’m sure next week will bring an entirely new dramatic phrase.  I’ll keep you updated. Ha!

A Day to Play

We’ve been suffering with allergies so our time outside has been somewhat limited as of late. Friday afternoon I took Madison to the library. When we got home Daddy was outside mowing, so we decided to play outside for a while.

The sun was shining. The wind was blowing. The allergens were taking us as their victims.

It’s Springtime in Kansas.

Madison does not like the loud lawn mower.
